Homestead Exemption Program
|
A recent change in Ohio law, which eliminates the income requirements, has broadened the qualifications for senior citizens to enroll in the homestead exemption that offers a break in property taxes.
The deadline to apply for the 2008 Homestead Exemption Program is June 2, 2008.
If you are a senior citizen and meet the following criteria, you are encouraged to enroll in the homestead program.
- Applicants who are 65 or older, or totally and permanently disabled.
- If disabled, the applicant is required to provide a certificate of disability or must have their physician provide the date of disability and sign the exemption form.
- Applicants who own and occupy their home or mobile home or have ownership interest in it (i.e. land contract, lease purchase).
If you missed the 2007 deadline and met the criteria, you may enroll for both 2007 and 2008. Applications must be turned in to the Auditor’s office by June 2, 2008. Applications are available at the Auditor’s office at One Government Center, Suite 600 or click here for a printable copy. All forms must be signed and mailed to the Auditor’s office, no electronic files will be accepted.
