Courthouse Tours
Courthouse Tours take place on a regular basis. Your group can learn first hand what to expect from the legal process. To schedule a courthouse tour, call 419-213-4700.
Criminal Division – This division is composed of trial attorneys that prosecute all felony cases in Lucas County. Topics include:
- Victims’ Rights
- Truth In Sentencing
- Negotiated Pleas
- Anatomy of a Criminal Case
Child Support Enforcement Unit – This unit concentrates on the criminal prosecution of parents who are delinquent in the payment of court-ordered child support for their children. Topics include:
- An Overview: What, When, How and Why Should
Parents Pay?
Civil Division – In the Civil division, trial and civil attorneys represent the county, its elected officials, the township trustees, and multiple government agencies, on contractual and personnel matters as well as litigation in areas as divers as eminent domain and environmental law. Topics include:
- Forfeitures: “Fruit of the Poisonous Tree”
- Environmental Law: Keeping Our County Safe and Beautiful
- Employment Law: Sexual Harassment/Discipline & Discharge
- Ohio Laws on Public Records and Open Meetings
- Zoning & Annexation Issues
Juvenile Division – The Juvenile Division has trial attorneys who handle all the juvenile adjudications from traffic offenses to felony certifications to the Common Pleas Court. Topics include:
- Teens and Drugs/Alcohol and Gangs
- Juvenile Violence
- Prosecuting Juveniles as Adults
- Good Kids Can Get Into Trouble
Foreclosure Division – The Foreclosure Division has civil attorneys who are responsible for collecting taxes and foreclosing on delinquent properties. Topics include:

Victim Witness Assistance Program – This program provides support and crisis intervention
to victims, witnesses, and their families during and after criminal prosecutions. Topics include:

- How Victims of Crime are Compensated: The Ohio Victims of Crime Fund
- Date Rape and Other Sexual Abuse
- Victimization & Its Consequences
- Domestic Violence: How the System Works for You
Victims’ Forum, Reaching Youth to Prevent Violence
- This three-phased youth violence
prevention program works to
reduce crime by re-sensitizing youth ages 10-18 in our community to the
long-lasting effects of violence and to change attitudes toward
violence.
Safe Haven for Newborns
- Ohio law states that you cannot be prosecuted
for giving up your unharmed baby to hospital staff, emergency medical
workers or peace officers within three days of the baby’s birth.
Senior Protection Unit
- This unit provides assistance to county
residents over the age of 60 who may become involved in the court
system. Working closely with area groups and organizations that address
senior issues, this assistance comes in the form of prevention,
protection, and prosecution on behalf of the senior community.
